Meraki Youth Art Fest Workshops

Sign up for as many classes as you'd like! Availability is first-come, first-served until classes are full. Cost to attend is $20 per class (cost is the same for single day or multi-day workshops).  Further details for each class will be provided once your registration is confirmed.

July 22 & 26, 4pm-8pm

 Handmade Ceramics

Join professional ceramics artist William Thompson to create your own ceramics piece. Students will be provided with stoneware clay, tools, and instruction/demonstration to help them. Students will have to arrange for pick-up of their work after final firing is complete.

 Puppets with Attitude!

Patricia Helsel brings you years of experience in theater, including acting, directing, audtion and vocal techniques...and puppetry! Get an introduction to the fun and wonder of using puppets to tell a story.  Using recycled or re-purposed materials, we will construct puppets who "exude 'tude".  We'll learn about connecting to your inner puppet character, acting out fun improvisations with completed puppets.

Seeing and Drawing

Artist Jim Dee will introduce students to several drawing techniques, as well as the importance of patience and focus, all geared toward drawing realistically.

Nature Prints & Beeswax Collage 

Join Melissa Hronkin in a two-day workshop (1-4pm both days) to create several nature inspired mixed media creations using Cyanotype nature prints, block printing, and finally putting it all together with encaustics (pigmented beeswax) and beeswax collage. No experience required for this experimental workshop.

Learn how to make the memes of your wildest dreams by utilizing the most up-to-date digital art platforms.

 Acrylic Pour Painting

Pamela Hecht is a master of acrylic pouring. She will guide you through the science of mixing colors, the physics of mixing & pouring paints, and in the process you'll create an amazing print!

Sewing an Abstract Quilted Square

Join Sew Cranky on their antique hand-crank sewing machines to create an artistic quilted square. Sew Cranky owner, Ginger Alberti, will guide you step-by-step through the process.

Screen Printing Basics

Screen printing doesn't need to be so hard! Join fiber artist Hannah Smith as she guides you through the process using both household and professional materials. Create a screen print that fits your personal style. All printing materials will be provided - all you need to bring is a favorite blank 100% cotton t-shirt to print your design on!

 Handstamping Metal: Wear Your Words

In this class you will learn about handstamping on to metal with Mavis Farr. Work with sheets and discs of copper, brass, and silver - get up close to the exciting craft of handstamping! Learn about a variety of dies, stamps, oxidation and polishing, repeating patterns, filing, finishing and more. You will create handmade pendants, keychains, or charms to take home. A great class for beginners!

Metalsmithing Basics: Tools, Textures and Forming

Learn about metalsmithing basics and tools of the trade from Mavis Farr, who has been teaching metalsmith classes for 15 years. You will explore a variety of hammers and forming tools, blocks, patterns and techniques as you work with copper, brass and silver to experiment with texturing, cutting and forming. Bring your curiosity and leave with handmade pendants or charms...and a new appreciation for this timeless craft!
